History
I.S.A.M. – Automobile and Motors Experimental Institute- is a Joint Stock Company
founded in November 1965 though its first activity dates back to 1956. In this year
it carried out the first tests on vehicles to determine their performances as an
“Experience and Study Service” for the Quattroruote magazine, published by Editoriale
Domus S.p.A. From 1956 on, beside road tests for Quattroruote this Service also
performed experimentation and study on vehicles, engines, accessories, traffic signs,
various manufactures and generally all concerning road traffic, as well as design
and manufacturing of several high technology measurement instruments, many of which
have been patented. The”Service” carried out its activity both on behalf of the
specialized magazines (Quattroruote, Auto Italiana e Quattrosoldi) of the Editoriale
Domus and other Bodies and Companies who required its performances and instrumental
constructions. After these increasingly considerable successes of the Experience
and Study Service’s activity, in 1965 the Editoriale Domus made the Service independent.
Actually it became a Joint Stock Company with its own legal status. The year 1971
is extremely important since the new centre sited in
Anagni (Frosinone) becomes
operative. It is designed and built on an area of about 160.000 sq.m. following
the most up-to-date functionality criteria.
The intense experimental activity carried out on vehicles and the research on human
behaviour while driving led the I.S.A.M. (J.S.C.) to the collaboration with prestigious
scientific institutes among which the CONI Sport Medicine Centre; besides an important
cooperation with the principal national and international vehicle manufacturing
industries developed.
The I.S.A.M.(J.S.C.) was the first in Italy to work in the field of the safe driving
teaching for State Bodies and the Police, having taken up the baton in 1977 from
the Alfa Romeo Company which then used to provide these Bodies and Authorities with
vehicles and took care of the drivers’ training. In those very years the famous
and exclusive – for methodology and contents- Master in Drive Course developed.
It trained more than 50.000 learner drivers.
In the early 80’s at the I.S.A.M.’s the first plant in Italy for crash tests onto
road barriers is accomplished; still today the plant is the only one homologated
in our Country for the barriers certification and not only.

At the end of a conversion concerning some of its plants and facilities, the I.S.A.M.
created a proper 2000m speed track, concluded in 2004 and aimed at receiving a Circuit’s
peculiar activities. Moreover it renovated various premises, converted the research
laboratories and lastly equipped the multipurpose equiplanimetric 50.000sq.m. apron,
the biggest in Italy. Contemporaneously with this” industrial” process it was believed
necessary, so as to better meet the market’s requirements, to set up a new company
division, son of the same over fifty-year-long experience and commitment in the
field. Therefore the I.S.A.M. (J.S.C.) is currently a single company though has
double capacity:
The I.S.A.M (J.S.C.) which embodies the company’s historic activities,
such as:
a) Tests, trials and various experimentations on vehicles, engines, accessories
and products such as fuels, lubricants and tyres;
b) Studies and research on one’s own account or on behalf of a third party on problems
concerning safety and technical advance involving vehicles and crafts;
c) Vehicles and engines check, diagnosis and repair;
d) Driving courses “Master in Drive”.
The I.S.A.M. MOTOR CENTRE to which the following activities are
connected:
a) Organization and management of driving courses for private individuals or companies,
on one’s own account or on behalf of a third party;.
b) Organization and management of incentives and company team building.
c) Circuit’s peculiar activities such as tourist traffic days (car/motorcycle free
sessions), car/motorcycle team tests, amateur competitions and so on.
d) Private organization and management on one’s own account or on behalf of a third
party of: events connected to the field and not, commercial, promotional and technical
events, product test days, gatherings, concerts, fairs etc.
e) Availability of premises for vehicle, engine, accessory manufacturing industries
for operative branches.
Today the company looks to the future planning new investments in its plants in
order to broaden the space dedicated to customers in a perspective of increasing
improvement.
